Swan Valley Inter Agency Report

Committee for the Elimination of Sexual Abuse

I will give you a list of our activities up to the end of this past fiscal year.

CESA has been actively pursuing a Sexual Abuse counselor over the past several years and this past year has finally been successful with funding from Manitoba Justice Victim Services.  The funding agreement for the pilot project was signed at the end of August 2008 and a cheque was issued in the amount of $8,470 at the end of September 2008.  Due to some unforeseen legal and organizational circumstances, the CESA committee had some delays in getting the project up and running.  The hiring process also had some delays in securing a qualified counselor that could be licensed and insured independently.  As of the beginning of the New Year, our Sexual Abuse counselor was hired.  The first priority was to focus on orientation and training from TARAS Vision for our counselor and then promote our new services to our local agencies and the community at large.  This is still ongoing and our counselor has received some referrals and has begun service delivery to a small client base.

The expenses to date have been primarily to our counselor - $2,223.85, invoiced as training, planning, promotion and travel expenses, as well as 24 hours as prep, counseling and charting time.

There has also been training given by TARAS Vision’s counselor for a total of $1,045.00; CMHA has invoiced for designing and printing pamphlets and business cards and consulting time, for a total of $149.82.

To the end of March 2009, the amount spent is $3,418.67 of the total funding received of $8,470.00, leaving approximately $5,051.33 to roll over into the next fiscal year.

This past year has been a big step forward for our committee as we now have a program and a staff person to be responsible.  We are on a steep learning curve but feel confident we are finally able to accomplish our earlier dream of offering counseling services to those in our community who are in need.

Thanks to our committed committee members for the perseverance in pursuing this goal.

Thank you for your ongoing support in this pilot project.

Sincerely,

Marvin Fried
